NBA Playoffs: Milwaukee Bucks survive crime against Boston Celtics

The Milwaukee Bucks won game 3 against the Boston Celtics and thus took the lead in the series. Giand was once more Giannis Antetocounmpo at the 103:10 win, but co-star Jrue Holiday hit the crucial litter in a dramatic final phase.

Almost two minutes before the end, the guests had been back in front for the first time after half-time after a 14-point deficit, before Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo with two drives gave the Bucks a 3-point lead. Marcus Smart went to the line 5 seconds before the end, gave the second attempt on purpose and won the rebound, but the tip-in of Al Horford came to the possible extension just after the siren, so that the hosts survived.

Antetocounmpo provided a monster game with 42 points (16/30 FG, 9/12 FT), 12 rebounds and 8 assists, and Holiday (25, 11/30, 3 steals) was also outstanding despite the weak quotas. Pat Connaughton (11, 3/8 threesome) met two important distances in the fourth quarter when the Bucks could hardly think of anything and almost gave the game out of his hand.

Boston won the final section with 34:23 and made it again exciting again thanks to Jaylen Brown (27, 8/16, 12 rebounds) and Horford (22, 9/16, 16 rebounds, 5 assists). Jayson Tatum (10, 4/19, 3 Assists), on the other hand, caught an evening to forget and acted unhappily in Crunchime when he wanted to pull an offensive foul at Holiday’s crucial litter instead of the Guard with its length as difficult as possible close. Daniel Theis played 2:17 minutes in the third quarter, but did not influence any influence.

The Bucks started with a smaller lineup (Grayson Allen for Bobby Portis), but it hardly changed anything defensively, since Lopez started hard on the ring. Boston got some open triplets, but otherwise nothing was easy. The same was for Milwaukee, but these also took some faster degrees. Anetetetocounmpo had collected 8 points, but hardly anything came from Tatum. He had problems against the host’s drop coverage (22:19).

Antetokounmpo leads Bucks onto the winning road

The threesome did not fall on either, but Tatum set a small exclamation mark with a transition dunder via Giannis. However, the Greek dominated the first half with his drives, Dunks and also a furious block against Tatum (it was probably a good thing). Otherwise, however, only Holiday and Lopez, Boston, distributed it a little better, but also stayed without field goal for over six minutes. And yet the guests led to the break with 50:46, since Boston Giannis started the third foul and scored the last seven points of the quarter with the Finals MVP on the bench.

Milwaukee reacted that the first few minutes belonged again to Antetocounmpo, which danced through the zone and thus initiated a 20: 6 run of the Bucks. The hosts were particularly successful in semi-transition, mostly thanks to Giannis, who immediately attacked defensive rebounds. Tatum continued to threw bricks, and the Celtics 7 TO made themselves in the section. The break for Antetokounmpo could not be used either, instead the hosts expanded the lead and took a cushion to the final quarter with (80:67).

But Boston was not yet beaten. The brown pale until then achieved fast 7 points, Derrick White (14) hit a threesome. The Celtics had scored more points than in the entire third quarter within 4:30 minutes (18:17). The Bucks wiggled because antetocounmpo was found too rarely. Horford was the best man for the Celtics in this phase, at the front and back. Brown even brought the Celtics back to the front almost two minutes before the end of the line before the Bucks still survived in a wild crunchtime thanks to Giannis and Holiday.

INSANE ENDING! Milwaukee Bucks vs Boston Celtics Game 3 Final Minutes ! 2021-22 NBA Playoffs

Milwaukee Bucks (3) – Boston Celtics (2) 103: 101 (boxcore), series: 2-1

  • As in the first two games, it was a struggle for wear. The guests only met 33 percent from the field at halftime – and still led. This was not because the three fell (only 4/18, MIL: 3/18), but because of the free throws. Boston took 17 Freebies and caused foul problems with the Bucks. Anteteokounmpo, Lopez and Allen had collected three fouls and sat on the bench at the end of the first half. Above all, the third foul against Giannis hurt the Bucks, Boston put a 7-0 run in the last 57 seconds of the section.
  • In half -time two teams then scorten a little better, but the threesome still hardly fell (27 percent for the Celtics, 26 percent for the Bucks). The hosts achieved 20 points more in the zone (52:32), while the Celtics took twice as many free throws (34:17) as the Bucks.
  • The third quarter, on the other hand, was Bucks basketball from the textbook. The hosts pushed seven ball losses from the Celtics, six of them were steals. But Milwaukee kept the pace high even after the guests failed and scored a whopping 18 points (BOS: 0) in transition. For comparison: the Celtics themselves only came to 17 points in the entire quarter. Holiday (12) and Antetocounmpo (11) dismantled the guests in this phase according to all the rules of art.
  • For antetocounmpo it was already the sixth 40-point game in its playoff career. Of all active players, only LeBron James (28), Kevin Durant (14), James Harden (9) and Russell Westbrook (7) have more. In the history of the Bucks there were otherwise only 10 other 40-point games, three of them go to the account of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
  • For Tatum, on the other hand, it was the second worst shooting performance of his postseason career. Only in 2019 the Forward scored worse (5 points, 2/10 FG), the opponents were the Milwaukee Bucks at the time. It was the third game below 25 percent shoot for the 24-year-old, the opponent was always called Milwaukee.

The star of the game: Giannis Antetokounmpo

In the first two games, the Celtics had kept the Greeks out of the field in 38 percent, this time they were powerless against primal violence of the incumbent final MVPS. Antetocounmpo took its degrees faster this time and caught the Celtics unsorted again and again for light casual and dunks. In addition to horford, nobody had answers for the Greek that evening.

The flop of the game: Jayson Tatum

Very difficult evening for the forward, which did not cope with the adapted defense of the Bucks at all. Milwaukee was able to live with Tatum from the middle distance, especially since he didn’t hit a single 1. There were also several hair -raising gymnastics and strange decisions. Several times, the 24-year-old refused a possible basket for a pass outside. His decision, in the last Bucks attack, to shine an offensive foul against Holiday was also not very glorious. Lightblows: 4 blocks.

the scene of the game

The end with the Horford-Tip, which was just too late, was dramatic, but should it have actually happened? The Celtics saw a shooting foul at the Holiday foul 5 seconds before the end, which would have meant three free throws for the Celtics point at 103: 100. The referees, on the other hand, rated it as a rip-through-move a la Chris Paul and only gave two free throws. Very controversial, because if you know Smart, you know that he would have liked to take the threesome in any case.
