Faster than expected, Hitzlsperger is now completely drawing back to the VFB. Already last fall, the Chairman of the Executive Board had surprisingly announced to no longer want to extend his contract on the Swabia until 31 October 2022. At the end of the year, Alexander Wehrle from 1. FC Cologne stood his successor.
Now it is very fast. Already on March 21, Wehrle takes the new task at VfB. The contract with Hitzlsperger is already dissolved in mutual agreement already as of March 31st.
“VfB must fully focus on the goal of league. A smooth, professional transition at the position of the CEO is now the best”, justified Hitzlsperger. “Alexander Wehrle gets any support from me and any information he needs. But he should then take care of the lead and can put his ideas with a view to the new season. I free the way, in close coordination with the Supervisory Board. “
Vogt: “Thomas Hitzlsperger releases the VfB Stuttgart as a friend”
Reconciliation words were also provided by VFB President and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board Claus Vogt. “Thomas Hitzlsperger leaves the VfB Stuttgart as a friend, the doors are always open to the VFB,” he is quoted. That was not always the case, because Hitzlsperger and Vogt let the power struggle escalate at the VFB and there was temporary wireless stly.
Today it listens differently and Vogt praises that Hitzlsperger has changed the VfB “both as a player and as a CEO having a positive manner and led by courageous times”. “The athletic and strategic realignment of our VfB with a clear commitment to the young savages and the clear social positioning of the club will remain embarrassed by his term of office as well as the successful management of corona episodes or the conversion of structures in the AG.”
HitzlSperger, who was mastered as a player with the VFB 2007, came back to the Neckar in 2016 as a consultant to the board. In 2019 he was finally chairman. Nothing is known about the future plans of the 39-year-old.
