According to the decision of the EHF Executive Committee of Monday evening, neither the national teams nor clubs from the two countries may participate in European competitions. The step follows the EHF of a recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. For example, it is affected in the men’s Champions League Meschkov Brest from Belarus. Rostov-Don and Zska Moscow play in the premier class of women.
According to EHF, referees and officials from Russia and his allies Belarus are no longer nominated for games until further notice. Events planned in Russia will also be awarded.
“These measures had to be taken with immediate effect, as the war in Ukraine continues to void and endanger the principles of EDF for cooperation at European level and the spirit of fairness,” says in a message. The EHF regrets the consequences for individuals, clubs and national teams and hope that the return of peace enabled new considerations.
